THE GIVER
[본문1]
Jonas lived in the community, a world of perfect ( order ).
Jonas가 사는 공동체는 완벽한 질서의 세계였다.
The community achieved the ideal level of social harmony ( by )( enforcing ) "( Sameness )."
그 사회는 "동일함"을 강요함으로써 이상적인 수준의 사회적 조화를 이루었다.

기억과 감정과 같은 갈등이나 의견 충돌의 원인들을 완전 히 제거한 것은 사회적, 심리공학적 비전이었다.

그 결과, 사람들은 걱정이나 고통 없이 살았다.

The boy's mind [extended/expanded] as he received memories from the Giver.
그 소년의 사고는 기억 전달자로부터 기억을 받으면서 확장되었다.
For the first time, Jonas knew [what/that/which] ( it ) is like ( to ) see a rainbow or ( to ) experience the thrill of speeding downhill on a sled.
처음으로 Jonas는 무지개를 보는 것이나 썰매를 타고 비탈 아래로 빠르게 내려가는 것의 짜릿함을 경험하는 것이 어떤 것인지를 알았다.

The days passed, but Jonas had lost count.
며칠이 지났지만, Jonas는 며칠이 지났는지 알 수 없었다.

낮에는 그를 찾는 정찰기들 때문에 그는 밤중에만 이동했다.

하지만 그럼에도 불구하고 그는 조심해야 했는데, 정찰기가 육지에 있는 두 사람의 신체를 찾아낼 수 있는 열 추적 장비를 사용했기 때문이었다.

[본문5]
One night Jonas lost control and [fall/fell], [when/where] the bike [accident/accidently] hit a rock.
어느 날 밤, 자전거가 실수로 바위에 부딪쳤을 때 Jonas는 중심을 잃고 넘어졌다.
He grabbed ( instinctively ) for Gabriel.
그는 본능적으로 Gabriel을 붙잡았다.
The child was uninjured, but Jonas's ankle was twisted.
그 아이는 다치지 않았지만, Jonas는 발목을 삐었다.
He now began to ride in daylight.
그는 이제 낮에 자전거를 타기 시작했다.
He had forgotten the fear of the searchers, [who/which] seemed to ( have )( diminished ) into the past.

그의 새로운 공포 중 가장 두려운 것은 그들이 굶주릴 수 있다는 것이었다.

[본문7]
Jonas felt more and more certain [that/what/which] Elsewhere was not far away. Jonas는 Elsewhere가 그리 멀리 있지 않다는 걸 점점 더 확신했다.

하지만 그곳에 도착한다는 그의 희망은 빠르게 줄어들고 있었다.
The sharp, cold air began to ( blur ) and ( thicken ) with swirling white.
매섭고 차가운 공기가 흐려지고 소용돌이치는 흰 것이 짙어지기 시작했다.
Dimly Jonas ( recalled ) [that/what/which] the [white/whiteness] [was/did].
Jonas는 흰 것이 무엇인지 어렴풋이 기억해냈다.

A steep hill appeared ahead.
가파른 언덕이 앞에 나타났다.

짙은 눈은 좁은 길을 완전히 덮어 버렸고 자전거 타는 걸 불가능하게 만들었다.

애를 쓰느라 고통스러웠지만 그는 자신의 팔에 안긴 가녀리고 떨고 있는 몸에 온기의 기억을 넣었다.
Gabriel stirred.
Gabriel은 몸을 움직였다.
